چکیده

a terrier came along. Through my binoculars, I saw the lapwing becoming increasingly anxious and, when the intruders were about 200 metres away, the bird ran off to trail a wing in front of them. The restrained dog clearly wanted to chase the injury-feigning bird and, had it been allowed to do so, would have been led well away from the nest. The lapwing's distraction would almost certainly have been protective for the clutch; following the incident, incubation was placidly resumed. A grazing sheep then ambled towards the nest. This time the lapwing did not move off the eggs until the sheep was at a distance of two metres, when the broken wing trick was repeated. Not surprisingly, the sheep made no attempt to follow but, instead, walked closer to

Experimental Study Spring-Mediated Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis

Successful performance of distraction osteogenesis requires rigorous patient compliance with a daily activation regimen of a percutaneous screw. Previous clinical studies have found that failure of patient compliance with this regimen is the most common complication leading to technical failure of the distraction process. The authors have developed an internalized spring-mediated device for man...

Stability, adaptation and growth following distraction osteogenesis in the craniofacial region.

The objective of the study was to provide a comprehensive review of the literature describing research done on the stability, adaptation and growth of craniofacial structures following distraction osteogenesis (DO). The design of the study was a literature review of clinical and experimental studies using electronic search with several keywords. Despite immediate normalization of craniofacial r...

Biomechanical patterns of text-message distraction.

The objective of this study was to identify biomechanical measures that can distinguish texting distraction in a laboratory-simulated driving environment. The goal would be to use this information to provide an intervention for risky driving behaviour. Sixteen subjects participated in this study. Three independent variables were tested: task (texting, visual targeting, weighted and non-weighted...

Dento-Alveolar Distraction Osteogenesis for rapid Orthodontic Canine Retraction.

BACKGROUND The objectives of this study were to evaluate the rate of canine distalization by segmental alveolar distraction method in first premolar extraction cases, to evaluate the displacement of the canine and first molar teeth, to assess the effects of the procedure on the pulpal vitality of the canines, and to determine the amount of root resorption in retracted canines. Distraction Osteogenesis Technique for the Treatment of Nonsyndromic Sagittal Synostosis

BACKGROUND Historically, surgical treatment of children with a delayed presentation of cranial synostosis required complex cranial vault reconstruction. Recently, less invasive options for surgical correction, such as internal distraction osteogenesis, have been explored. In this study, we describe the successful management of delayed presentation of sagittal synostosis using distraction osteog...
